My friend and I are doing book club together and we’ve read a ton of Jeff Vandermeer and we’re looking to expand the book list. We love sci-fi, we just finished The Mountain in the Sea and the Ambergris Trilogy and really enjoyed them.

Me too!
Hard to say. The tower thing riffs like the navidson record. The antagonist riffs like Stephen Kings “IT”. Annihilation is very spooky.
[Roadside Picnic](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/331256.Roadside_Picnic) is a classic.
The Metro 2033 novel. Can’t speak for the game that is based on it, but the book does lean into the creepy/surreal factor.
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaichovsky
It doesn’t strictly match your criteria but has elements of the books you listed which would lead me to think you would enjoy it.
The author goes so far with the concept.
