There’s a book I am trying to search for/recall.
It was a pretty famous book with an open ending which left readers very unsatisfied (and afaik the author also acknowledged this)
As far as I remember, the character in focus was very much like Sherlock Holmes or Moriarty, and had a similar “vibe”
Under “books” I include:
Novels, Novellas, Webnovels, Webtoons, Manga, Manhwa, Short Stories, AO3, etc.
What it does not include: Fanfiction and most “derived” works.

I know people were really pissed about the ending of the final Dark Tower novel because of the ending. I think King even put a paragraph before the ending was revealed saying, “Warning, you might not like this ending! Stop right here. OK. Don’t say I didn’t warn you….”.
