I’m sorry, I’m new to this subreddit and almost all of us are over the bandwagon of hate against Colleen Hoover but holy fucking shit, Verity is one of the worst books I’ve ever read. First of all, the main character majorly gives off ‘I am not like other girls’ vibes-the uninterested demeanor, the unnecessary edginess, I was literally cringing the whole time. Plus the premise of the book just didn’t make sense to me-she was attracted to a man after just meeting him once?

The name choices are so so bad- and most of the journal entries felt like were added to give the shock effect(and i often witness this premise in so many other disturbing books but their plots are redeemable). I am sorry, anyone who couldn’t see the ending come from a mile away-you must have the pattern recognition of a 5 year old. Half the bookstagram+booktok acting like it was the plot twist of the century is just….well, I have no words.

I did try reading ‘It Ends with Us’ and ‘It Starts with Us’-definitely feel like storywriting is NOT for Colleen.

Sorry for the rant and please suggest good thriller books for me to recover 😭🫶

    1. I was soooo disappointed in this one. I remember when it ended I specifically thought “*I* could have written a better ending”

Check out The Couple Nextdoor — haven’t read it myself but heard it’s a good page turner.
