    Hello All,
I just got done reading Lonesome Dove and really enjoyed it and found it to be much easier of a read than I expected. I am looking to work my way towards what I have heard are some of the more difficult classic novels. I was wondering if there were any that you have enjoyed that you would consider easy for someone like myself that is just getting back into reading? Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

    1. Don Quixote is long and looks intimidating but it’s a very easy read. The stakes of the story are very low so it’s fine if you lose focus here and there. It’s one of the essential classics and some consider it the best novel (though it’s really two books in one) ever written.

The Count of Monte Cristo s a great read, it was originally released in small parts, so most chapters have some exciting cliffhanger or revelation.

    3. Highly recommend grabbing a few e-books off project Gutenberg and seeing what grabs you in the first few pages.

Off the top of my head: To Kill a Mockingbird, East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath, Lord of the Flies, A Separate Peace, A Farewell to Arms, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hobbit, Catcher in the Rye, Cry the Beloved Country, Crime and Punishment.

A few I have on my list but are assuming I need to work up to are:
The Count of Monte Cristo- I haven’t heard much about the difficulty but know it is long.

Crime and Punishment- I’ve heard that Dostoyevsky can be difficult to read and imagine I need to take my time to get there although the premise in very intriguing to me.

    5. The Remains of the Day is super readable, fairly short, and most importantly absolutely slaps.

Don’t forget Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer!! They’re short and easy to read, but are still classics with tons to glean from!
