I’m interested in doing a run through history in reading as my goal this year (maybe into next year depending on the size of the list!), so would like to hear about your favourite historical reads. I’m essentially looking to build a list starting prehistoric and ending in the late 1900’s ish.
Preferred;
– Fiction
– Relatively modern books. Despite (or perhaps because of…) an English Literature degree, I struggle with classics. However by relatively modern, I essentially mean written in the fifty-sixty years which seems to be my vague cut off for when it becomes a chore to read instead of enjoyable. Feel free to recommend exceptions if you really think they are stunning though. Les Mis is already on my list for example.
– Not romance as the main plot; happy for it to be a subplot or even intrinsic to the story, but I want a narrative that isn’t solely romance.
– Any country or culture is good. I’m British, so I suspect the final list will end up UK centric, but enjoy reading about other counties and cultures.
If you could specify the time period with the recommendation, that would be extra helpful!
