infatuated?

need books with someone obsessed over a lady and gets very very very desperate. i repeat, very very very desperate. it doesn’t need to be romance, something like tragedy is actually better. maybe gothic too. yes, this is the plot. nothing more

it can be wlw or straight. and they’re NOT dominant, the lady is the one controlling them (unconsciously or not). she broke them. they’re following her around like a dog on an invisible leash. please, i refuse to read anything with mafia, ceo, hitman or anything similar. no unnecessary predictable plot twist “the lady’s the real stalker” either

but it can’t be too lighthearted, i want it melancholic. maybe poetic and pathetic. full of longing and yearning. i especially love the diary/introspection/first person pov format too, like Lolita and The Virgin Suicides. or delusional and unreliable narrator. but it doesn’t need to be that way. i don’t need happy ending.

some good quotes for example (from The X Ingredient and Lolita) :

— I can barely breathe. I might pass out. But I can’t do that, I can’t miss a second of this. This is Laurie, Laurie, Laurie.

— “Tell me what you feel,” she whispers between maddening flicks of her tongue.
I can’t say that. I can’t. She’ll stop.

At the words, I feel struck with lightning again. I was Laurie’s pleasure.

— Where are you hiding, Dolores Haze? Why are you hiding, darling? (I talk in a daze, I walk in a maze. I cannot get out, said the starling)
