I want to start liking reading but I’m finding it super hard. I’ve tried many kinds of books but can’t seem to get into them. I don’t even finish a chapter because I get distracted or make up reasons not to read. My focus doesn’t last long, and I can’t sit with a book for more than 10 minutes. I really want to change this and read more instead of scrolling on TikTok for 9 hrs a day. Can you give me some advice?

Try reading Holes by Louis Sachar! The chapters are really short and it’s super engaging

Oh, and maybe put your phone out of reach for at least ~30min a day while you read so you don’t automatically pick it back up without thinking

    2. Visit your local library and ask for their guidance and suggestions…they’ll be thrilled to help you!

    3. I use to be the same. I’m actually doing it right now. I could be reading but I’ve been scrolling Reddit for the last hour. You got to find a way to get away from distractions. What I found works for me is putting headphones on and a music playlist I’m not interested in. Classical or jazz and have that on low but just high enough to block out most noise. Tv, people, neighbourhood. Then you got to put phone out of reach.

Depending on what genre of book you want to read and if you can work on self discipline you have plenty of options.

      A) Short stories ( I will put down book once I finish this story)

      B) Certain writers style leans themselves more to shorter chapters. ( I will finish this chapter before I can put book down)

      C) YA. Normally faster paced and shorter books. Easier to pull you into story ( again if you are feeling distracted. Make yourself finish chapter before putting book down)

      D) comics, graphic novels, manga. Not my favourite type of storytelling but may work for you.
