My boyfriend (20) has expressed interest in reading a book with me (18 F). The only catch is that he hasn’t read any books since his middle school phase whereas I’m an avid reader with picky taste. I asked him a couple questions to gauge his preferences and he told me he enjoyed reading the Hatchet books as well as Harry Potter and LOTR. The books I enjoy reading are pretty advanced and require a lottt of introspection like The God of Small Things and The Bell Jar. Do you guys have any book suggestions that might meet in the middle? I guess I’m looking for something with some action, some magic realism, (maybe not so much romance… bc we both find that cheesy) and a difficulty that he could wrap his head around while still being enjoyable for me. Thank you!!!

He hasn’t read since middle school and you want him to pick the hobby up by reading *with* you…

I’m sorry but you are going to have to read at his reading and interest level. He’s the one you want to enjoy the experience. You being shortly bored isn’t going to stop you reading again (and you can read your own book at the same time).

Maybe pick something that’s nostalgic to you.

The Girl Who Circumnagivated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making it’s a fun series. My fiancée is the reader (English major), and I read more on the kid book/easy to digest side of things.
