So, I loved the entire Shogun series (Tai Pan, Gai Jin, etc), Memoirs of a Geisha, American Geisha, etc. Any books you might suggest that deal with medieval Japan, or the history of geisha?
They predate the Geisha, but a steeped in medieval Japan – The Pillowbook and Tale of the Genji. I highly recommend reading The World of the Shining Prince, a nonfiction book about the history of the period for the book, which gives you context for what’s going on in them.
