I read a ton of books in my adolescence, and just recently started reading again. I’ve realized my favorite part of every book I’ve enjoyed lately is when the author is describing the surroundings and setting the scene for the physical world. For example I recently read The Stand by Stephen King and the first 1/5 or so of the book when he is setting the scene from every characters perspective was one of my most enjoyable reading experiences. To a slightly lesser extent first books in the Maze Runner series setting the scene in the “Glade” and Maze was so immersive and enjoyable. I’m looking for books where you really felt exhilarated and fully immersed in the setting more than the character/story in some sense. I really enjoy a post apocalyptic or apocalyptic scenario, also just wilderness survival situations. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
