So, I really been wanting to read a WlW romance, but I’m having trouble finding something that I actually like. I read Jeanette Winterson’s Written on the Body recently, and though I didn’t like it, it was the most beautiful, sapphic, luscious and golden thing I ever read, that’s the style of writing that I’m looking. Everyone talks about Sarah Waters, but I don’t know honestly, never read historical fiction before. Don’t want fantasy/sci-fi nor YA.

    1. I’ve enjoyed Sarah Waters books, and am generally pretty picky about writing. Whether it’s a style you’ll enjoy I can’t say, but I’m not usually one for historical fiction and I still enjoyed her books

Honestly Jeanette Winterson is one of the most unique voices and I haven’t found anything that quite compares. Sarah Waters is great but a lot of her books are very slow builds, so although the payoff is usually awesome it can take a while for me to get immersed in one of her stories. Need to be in the right headspace. I did recently really enjoy Plain Bad Heroines. It’s got some modern gothic horror vibes. Half of it is set in modern day and half in early 1900s, and the writing was very good.

    3. Try Rita Mae Brown. She’s fairly famous for lesbian literature, although not all of her books are.
