I need a story about obsession

This is going to sound slightly odd, but I’m in need of a story that has a message.
Essentially, I’m looking for someone in a leadership role who is obsessing about a particular objective or goal and is throwing away things in the search of obtaining this goal. Something that has a message about reconsidering the path you’re taking in this pursuit. Like a captain whos destroying his ship or overworking his crew in search of treasure.
The shorter the better. Bonus points if it can be something relatable or a more modern take. Hell, if I could find an episode of a popular show that explains this point well, I’d take that too.
Any guidance?
