I’ve seen numerous authors that sign their books out in public and maybe it’s just me but I think that lessens their value?

I’m not against author signing books. Not at all.
But the more they sign, the less special it is to get one?

Also, do author get in trouble for doing that?
I feel like even though they, yes, have copyrights on the work itself.

Each and every book shouldn’t be able to be defaced by them unless someone asks for that.

The main culprit I see is Alex Aster. (Who has one of THE worst books I’ve ever read) She signs so many books it’s unbelievable. Just randomly out in public.

There’s not that big of a demand for her to sign because she isn’t very relevant.

If she didn’t sign so much, it would actually increase her relevancy.

On the other hand: Brandon Sanderson. He’s cool and relevant. He actually has a high demand for people who want him to sign their books. So he signs batches every now and then but not just randomly. That increases his relevancy.

Same for George R.R Martin. He’s practically so quiet in the media that you question if he has a social security number lol. He’s so relevant that it’s unreal and people would faint to get a signed copy from him.

Thoughts? Opinions? Or maybe it’s just me…
