I ordered the complete collection of Edgar Allan Poe on amazon recently because I had read a few short stories of his and was interested. However they sent me the wrong book and I got “The complete Sherlock Holmes.” I’ve never read sherlock Holmes and honestly haven’t even seen any movies or anything related to it, I feel like I know the gist, epic detective guy does epic detective things. I’m also a busy (and lazy) uni student and I’m kind of now debating whether I should just cut my losses and keep it because maybe I would have eventually bought it anyway. Any thoughts? I know sherlock holmes is super famous but I’m not sure, I would have preferred the book I ordered but maybe I will turn out to love the book, who knows? I have actually never read a detective book or anything so I don’t even have anything to compare it to. Is sherlock holmes a genuine great piece of literature that holds up today, or is it mostly something people buy just because it’s old and famous?
