I’ve recently managed to get my dad into reading fiction, with American Gods by Neil Gaiman. He really enjoyed the road trip, magical realism style – nothing too far fantasy, and he liked the road trip aspect of it as well. I’m not sure of anything else that’s quite the same style, as I tend to read more fantasy/sci-fi that I don’t think he’d be a fan of, so looking for suggestions.

Macunaima: The Hero Without Any Character by Mario de Andrade, a magical-realist epic based on Amazonian gods and mythology
“Kafka on the Shore,” by Haruki Murakami
Anything by Tom Robbins: *Another Roadside Attraction, Still Life with Woodpecker,* and *Jitterbug Perfume* are my favorites.
Magical realism with a little LSD sprinkled on top.
