I dont know if I explained that right but Im looking for writers that have really good report style writing.

For example clear and concise, no fluff, active voice, etc

Im a statistician who writes reports monthly and I read mostly fiction which spills over into my reports sometime so Im just looking for some inspo/good examples to work through.

I already digest a lot of online blogs and articles for econ and whatnot but just looking to expand.

Topic can be anything interesting, more interested in writing styles.

    Thanks in advance!!

I think you might like The Martian by Andy Weir, World War Z by Max Brooks, and The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks.

*The Corpse Had a Familiar Face* by Edna Buchanan sounds like exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a memoir of her time as a crime reporter for the Miami Herald in the late 60s through early 80s. The second book *Never Let Them See You Cry* has more of the same. Short, punchy sentences. No nonsense prose. Read the introduction here. If it doesn’t hook you, I don’t know what to say:

Michael Lewis is also very good at presenting colorful characters and complex ideas in lucid, vivid writing. I’d especially recommend *Liar’s Poker*, *The Money Culture*, and *The Big Short*. *Moneyball* and *The Blind Side* are also fantastic.

Pauline Kael’s film reviews might also scratch that itch. Incisive, propulsive prose.
