don’t judge me, but i tried to read crime and punishment but i thought it got boring like mid way through. i understand that the “punishment” was more psychological, but i just thought it got boring after the main character committed the crime. it became hard to pick up.

are there any books similar in plot to crime and punishment that might be faster paced?

    1. For clarification, do you mean you’re looking for crime novels? Or works of literature that are just easier to get into? Maybe Kafka’s *The Trial*, if the latter.

    2. Mediocre-Tomatillo-7 on

I wonder the same. Are there modern, faster paced books of a similar topic but also philosophical? Just hard to get through the 50 page tangents that don’t move the plot along even an inch.

    3. Don’t give up on C&P. I tried reading it in my late 20s and didn’t really get into it – bailed about 150 or so pages in. Finally read it the year I turned 50 and consider it one of the finest representations of the human mind ever crafted.

As for your request, perhaps *Ironweed* by William Kennedy or *Sophie’s Choice* by William Styron
