This is the most hardcore sci-fi book I think I’ve ever read. I’ve always enjoyed the genre, but I think I always stayed with stories that were much more superficial than this. A drop, but never an ocean. But Infinity Gate was an all encompassing journey into a deep ocean of ideas and not only was it fun for me to read, but it also made me think about the philosophical questions that present themselves throughout. The world building was spectacular, the character development was unbelievably good, the plot… amazing. I truly cannot wait to finish what I started with book two later this year!
So this is a duology, with the 2nd book set for release in June 2024. I don’t want to give anything away with my review, but the ending of book one is a definite cliffhanger for part two.
The basic premise, without divulging too much, is a way to travel to the multiverse is found by a scientist whose earth is crumbling around her. A way to survive, but stumbled upon too late. We learn that other earths have already found this technology, and have a society of many earths called the Pandominion. But there is soon to be a new threat, and one that could threaten all of existence.
I found myself thinking many times about these questions. The author, I think, presented everything in such an easy to digest but very deliberate way. It was entertaining, from page one, and it didn’t really have any dull parts. I think I even enjoyed reading the snippets of the characters that I think I’m meant to dislike. There wasn’t any part of the book that was a slog for me. And at over 500 pages, I think that a feat in and of itself.
