Hi everyone! Thanks for your great suggestions for January; we chose Project Hail Mary and it was a hit!
Our Book Club is comprised of ~10 dudes who’ve known each other since childhood. Comfortable reading and discussing anything.
Any suggestions for Book 2? We live Sci-Fi and Fiction and are staying away from Nonfiction for the time being. We loved Project Hail Mary!
TIA!

The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (or really anything by him.)
The Godfather by Mario Puzo
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry
Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
The Brothers K by David James Duncan
The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel
Malibu Burning by Lee Goldberg
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni
The Round House by Louise Erdrich
Hogg by Samuel Delany – make sure to have discussion questions afterwards.
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy
Ender’s Game could be a fun read for a group that’s known each other since childhood. Most of the characters are children so it could be interesting to discuss how similar/different you were as kids and how you would have handled the challenges thrown at them.
If you’re not already familiar with the book, it’s classic science fiction from 1985 by Orson Scott Card (who sucks as a person! but it could also be fun to discuss separation of the art from the artist.)
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (I would also suggest Reamde)
Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra
Blood Meridian
American Gods
The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick Dewitt
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John LeCarre
The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson
Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
The Green Mile by Stephen King
If you do decide to read nonfiction my suggestions are:
Devil In the White City by Erik Larsen
The Bin Ladens by Steve Coll
The Smartest Guys in the Room by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkins
Bad Blood by John Carreyou
Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden
Dark Invasion by Howard Blum
Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. It’s book 1 of The Expanse books, which was also made into a TV on Amazon. If you like Andy Weir, these books would be a good fit. I also think Neal Stephenson, who someone else recommended, is a good choice but I’d go with Snow Crash before Cryptonomicon. Both are good but Snow Crash is faster paced and less dense.
