To be clear, I’m not looking for modern adaptions of old characters (eg BBC Sherlock). I’m looking for Sherlock-esque characters that were created in the past 30 or so years. What’s the go to contemporary super detective?

I’m aware of the Mr Monk books which I’ve heard are OK.

    1. I found colin dexter’s inspector morse a nice mixture of sherlock holmes and house (from house m.d.). otherwise most detective series are like that, they solve everything eventually, you just need to find a character or author you like. john sandford, michael connelly, robert crais, graham hurley, peter james, john harvey, ian rankin, mark billingham, jonathan kellerman, faye kellerman are just a few names to look into. and monk is a must-watch show but I never thought of reading any of the tie-in novels (of any show or movie).
