I just tried yet another book that didn’t grab me and it’s really exhausting. Please help. I’m looking for something I can read before bed for 20-30 min a night.
Specs: long or short. not depressing. Page turner. Well-written/high level of writing
Page turner. Not a book that feels woke or noticably politicized. Easy to read, starts off already good from pg 1. Funny or adventurous at times but not necessarily a comedy or adventure genre. I’m interested in stories about the past/history based on fact; not super into historical fiction unless it’s magical realism. For example, I loved Napoleon the movie that recently came out- it may not have been 100% accurate to history but it depicted Napoleon like a painting would: based on truth but exaggerated in some aspects so we can gather the vibe and digest it in a short window of time.
Not interested in fantasy/sci-fi at the moment.
Hoping for a must-read, like a 9/10 minimum rating. Imagine if you haven’t seen the Deer Hunter, that’s what I’d recommend to you as far as movie.
Last book I read that I loved was Shantaram (it is long and I did get bored in some small instances but it was generally fun because it was based on truth). I also just read The Postcard (translated from French) and that was good at moments but spread thin between too many non captivating moments. Made for good pre-sleep material.
