TL;DR Book suggestions for at-risk male youths age 9-13.
Hi all, I work for a program that works with at-risk male youths. During the summer we have a residential summer camp, at the end of camp we send all the boys home with a book. Last summer we send them home with “Hilo: The Boy Who Crashes To Earth” by Judd Winick. We are trying to find a book for this upcoming summer, as I’m not an avid reader, I thought who better to ask than Reddit! If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer. Thanks in advance!
Requirements:
-For ages 9-13
-At an easier reading level as literacy can be an issue
-Relating to at-risk youth in some way
-Whether that be fitting in, developing yourself, living through hard life events, etc.
– I like the idea of comic books, poems, or short stories
– Many of the boys I work with have a short attention span and/or get frustrated easily when reading is long or difficult

Maybe Holes by Louis Sachar?
