I love to read but have been out of the habit lately.
I want something easy to get me back into it. By “easy” I mean both on the shorter side and easy to understand.
I would also strongly prefer something more PG. I’m not a total prude. I can handle some cussing and references to adult themes, I’d just prefer it to not be graphic or excessive.
I’d also strongly prefer a happy ending. Or at least bittersweet. Just not depressing.
I really like mystery, historical fiction, and fantasy, but I’m open to other genres. I like books that are funny, even if humor isn’t the main thing. I’m open to nonfiction, but I would want a good story.
As a kid, I loved the American Girl books, but I’m obviously too old for those now. Honestly, if there’s a book or series that’s like a grown up version of the American Girl books, that could be great!
I’m also a big Harry Potter fan and Percy Jackson fan.
Other books I’ve read and liked, but maybe aren’t the vibe I’m going for right now: Man’s Search for Meaning, Moneyball, Hamlet, Macbeth, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Orphan Train, Mere Christianity. Yes, I did do a lot of my reading in high school.

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
It’s been several years since I’ve read one, but Janette Oke books were favorites of mine in high school. She is a Christian author so there are faith based plot lines but mainly they read like American Girl/Orphan Train/Little House on the Prairie type books. They are always heartwarming even if the characters face hard circumstances along their way. Maybe take a look – she has dozens of titles and they are all quick/easy reads.
Well, here I’d recommend Kurt Vonnegut due to the request for easy, lighthearted reads. His writing style is very straight forward, his wit and humor is evident in his stories, but he also touches upon some of the darker aspects of humanity. If you’re just looking for light hearted,/quick, I’d say go for Breakfast of Champions. If you want something the same, but a little but deeper, go Cat’s Cradle or Galapagos.
i know i recommend this series a lot on here but the Jack West Jr series by Matthew Reilly!! They’re really quick and easy reads. The first one is called the Seven Ancient Wonders
The Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth books. Pleasant, rather cosy mysteries.
The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman
The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith
The Martian and/or Hail Mary both by Andy Weir
Reality in the Kitchen by Olivia Burke was pretty short quick romance that is a clean easy enjoyable read. I know this is in a series with other couples but haven’t read any other than this one and loved it.
For mystery I you may like this series by Rebecca Deel called Otter Creek. Different couples for each book but are connected thru the couples friendship.
Honestly I just read the inheritance games and really really enjoyed them. The shadow and bone series is very pg and I liked that alot
