May not be the correct place for this, but whatever. Mods can delete this if need be. Also going to add I’m aware I’ve been struggling mentally and emotionally lately and have things going on. This is probably impacting my perception of things.
In the past few months I finally made a TikTok account and followed some book related stuff. I follow a few book collectors, indie store owners, and some different folks for reviews and recommendations. Over the last few days the algorithm has been showing me videos by female creators with varying takes on these messages.
\- “I’m reading only male authors this month….There aren’t any good ones LMFAO!”
\- “Me looking for good books written by men…”
\- “When you find a man in your library/bookstore…”
I get it. The numbers and stats are there. Most readers, writers, editors, so on are women now. It’s a very female dominated space. But what hell? I love books and stories and writing. Those few hours at the end of the day when I can sit down with a book or story collection or comic is my favorite part of the day. What the hell? Why is this being attacked now?
