I mostly have books on specifics such as “The Bee Book”, “Botanical Curses and Poisons: The Shadow-Lives of Plants”, and other such books.
But I want a story!
The problem is I don’t have the patients for most lol. Please give me something that will glue me to the book. I think I would prefer a grim fantasy type (no Warhammer, I’m not ready).
Thank you.

The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley is grim fantasy. However, it’s really long. You may want something shorter, but I don’t read enough fantasy to have any other suggestions.
As for books on specifics but with a story, the nonfiction book The Ghost Map is written in a very story-like manner while explaining the discovery of waterborne disease.
Maybe not so much grim, but certainly griping is Piranesi by Clarke.
