i’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this (read the rules) but: i used to read like it was no one’s business when i was a young child. i read everything i could find over and over and that just. stopped. i don’t understand why, as i know i’m quite smart, i have an extensive vocabulary and the like. i’ve pinpointed the main causes as to why i havent sat down to read a book in years:
– im addicted to my phone
– i cannot sit still and focus at all on what im reading
– i have absolutely no reading comprehension and cant digest or understand anything i read
– all the words blur up when i try to read
– my ocd amplifies all of this
i think i might have dyslexia but i’m not sure.. i’ve tried everything possible to get myself back into reading: audiobooks, removing distractions, carrying books with me, reading in small chunks, literally nothing is working… i miss reading books, real actual books so much. any advice on this? anything helps!!

How is your attention span when you listen to audio books?
I basically had to cut my phone out of my life for weeks to be able to focus on physical books again. It was quite the eye-opener for me to realize how addicted I was and how much my focus had taken a dive.
Whenever I am in a slump like this, revisiting YA books that I read when I was younger helps me get started again. They’re easy, familiar and bring a sense of nostalgia. It’s fun to go back.
Put your phone/tech in a drawer in a far room, turn off all disctractions like the TV/music and read. Make yourself read for 20 minutes…keep going if you are enjoying yourself. Try it for a couple days a week.
What kind of stuff did you used to read?
this was me 3 years ago but now i have been doing 80-100 books a year.
i will be honest and say that i started with twilight and it changed my life. i LOVED this book in middle school and it was so nice to return to that time.
i suggest reading something you’ve already read several years ago that you absolutely loved. i liked YA because the language is more simple.
i would also recommend checking out a large print book from the library. it helped me with attention span issues even though i see fine
