I feel like most of the female characters I read are just sort of drifting through life. A little clueless, can’t seem to move past trauma, driven by their relationship with someone else. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Would just love to read a book where there’s female character is a bit more self assured, knows what she wants and gets it, radiates confidence even if it’s a front. Maybe she’s not that at the beginning, but gets there.
BUT looking for them to be portrayed in a human, real way that takes place in real life setting. For example, i love the way Sally Rooney and Frederick Backman write- their characters and the writing is so true to life and human which is why it’s somewhat moving for me.
It doesn’t have to be heroic or uplifting. Doesn’t have to be a love story. She doesn’t have to be perfect.
But no fantasy/action books or YA. No heroic epics or pure girl boss books. Preferably no memoirs either (a la Wild by Cheryl Strayed). Nothing too advanced or difficult to read either please 🙂 This is probably going to be impossible but hopefully there’s something out there

I think you’d like “Hello Beautiful” by Ann Napolitano, about a family of strong sisters and the different paths their lives take in adulthood.
Recommend “The Bean Trees” and its completion book “Pigs in Heaven” by Barbara Kingsolver. Lovable and down to earth protagonist as well as supporting characters. Great audiobook narration.
These novels are kind of unique in that they’re hard to define or lump into a common genre. Unique writing style.

Stone Cold Fox by Rachel Koller Croft
Not usually my type of book or genre but it was a great read and the MC is very interesting.
