I read mostly literary fiction and non-fiction. For fiction, I used to read mostly classics but in the last ten years have been reading current novels. I get a lot of recommendations from Reddit and Goodreads (not a promotion for either). I do not like romance novels. So my question for discussion is this: how does one decipher if a new literary fiction book is going to end up reading like a romance? Are the genres just merging? For example I just read Alone With You in the Ether. This seemed to me to be a romance novel. Well written but still romance.
