The only 1000+ page book I’ve actually finished was Bertrand Russell’s History of Western Philosophy. Couldn’t put it down, and I left with a basic knowledge of most of the concepts and big names all the way up to the 1940s, enough to have a conversation about and get quiz show questions right. Have you ever come across a book which does this for another topic?
I’m especially interested in anything which covers the arts, which is a blind spot for me.
