Hello! I (29F) am adding books to my 2024 reading list and want to have a nice mix of genres, length etc., so I’d love to hear your recommendations for the best or most impactful short(ish) books you’ve read? I’m thinking a max of 150 pages.
To give an example, I absolutely adore Claire Keegan, so that’s my current benchmark for great writing in a short space. I’ve also got Murderbot Diaries on my radar as I’ve seen them recommended a lot in this sub.
I’d prefer fiction, but open to hear anything you’ve got! Thank youuu!

Oooh, I adore short books! Here’s a few I love, all fiction and all under 150 pages:
* Include Me Out by Maria Sonia Cristoff (trans. Katherine Silver)
* I Miss The World by Violet LeVoit
* Mrs. Caliban by Rachel Ingalls
* Fup by Jim Dodge
* Whiteout Conditions by Tariq Shah
* The Only Harmless Great Thing by Brooke Bolander
* The Princess of 72nd Street by Elaine Kraf
* Boulder by Eva Baltasar (trans. Julia Sanches)
* In The River by Jeremy Robert Johnson
Some of my favorite shorter books are Orwell’s Animal Farm, and Voltaire’s Candide. Both were quick reads, very witty, and left you thinking about the political/social statements made within. I highly recommend both.
