I’m looking for suggestions of novels written in the last 10 – 20 years that feature a fictional technology as a central aspect of the story.
Other requirements:
1) regardless of genre, these books should be literary—i.e. more focused on opening the reader’s heart and mind than simply in entertaining.
2) they should be set in the “real world”—i.e. the past, present, or near future of a recognizable planet earth, a context tethered in some way to our own our own moment. (i.e. not pure fantasy.)
Any example would be Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun, which is told from the perspective of a fictional technology—in this case, a humanoid robot—in a near-future version of the U.S.
Any help? thanks!
