Basically as the title suggests I’m looking for books, non-fiction or fiction, that revolve around life and generally what the oppression was like in the various Axis states, primarily interested in anything that’s not Germany basically.
So occupied France, Yugoslavia, Poland, Benelux etc, or just about any place where the Axis powers had some prominence. Also similarly interested in life under the non Nazi regimes, primarily Mussolini’s Italy.
But yeah in general looking for something with an insight into the opporession into the era, be it something that leans more into a description of the history or something with a little more narrative flair, or straight up fiction based on life in those territories.
Not really interested in anything further east than Poland, neither Soviet nor in the Asian theater, similarly not particularly keen on anything set in the German “heartland” so to speak though I would be interested in any more “fringe” territories or Austria and Czechoslovakia.
