This is just for fun but I was looking at my bookcase and realized two of my favorite books have one-letter titles. J by Howard Jacobson and C by Tom McCarthy.
It got me thinking about other novels that have one-letter titles, and I wondered if I could find the whole alphabet. Spoiler, I can’t. But this is what I found.
C by Tom McCarthy
D by Michael Faber
e. by Matt Beaumont
F by Daniel Kehlmann
G. by John Berger
K by Mary Roberts Rinehart
N. by Stephen King (technically a novella published in a collection)
Q by Luther Blissett
S. by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst
V. by Thomas Pynchon
W has multiple entries… W. by Steve Sem-Sendberg, and W by Igor Štiks.
X by Ilyasah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon
Y by Marjorie Celona
Z by Therese Ann Fowler
A lot of these have sub-titles, which might be considered cheating but I’ve allowed it. I did disqualify another W (“W, or the Memory of Childhood” by Georges Perec) because that seems like more than a subtitle.
Any favorites among these, or any I have missed?
