I’m trying to improve my location and character descriptions because they’re currently too vague and they don’t evoke feelings or emotions.
Who are some of your favorite writers or books when it comes to descriptions? I’m looking for masters of language who can convey facts and feelings with the smallest number of words.

Not sure about the smallest number of words, but Anita Shreve paints such vivid pictures that I feel like I actually know the characters. Her writing elicits feelings in me that are usually reserved for real life.
Joseph Conrad, Mikhail Sholokhov, Rebecca West. Some of the genre writers who often get overlooked do some good descriptions too, ‘The Ox-Bow Incident’ a Western by Walter Van Tilburg Clark is vivid and ‘Shane’ by Jack Schaefer has its moment. Crime writers like Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers can draw characters and situations pretty crisply.
