Back in 1997, I read the first Reacher tale, Killing Floor, and was hooked. Since then, I’ve bought and read everything that has been written about Reacher and enjoyed them all.
Well, most of them. Since Lee Child was joined by his brother Andrew in 2020, I’ve felt that the writing started to go downhill. This latest novel – The Secret – is, imho, the worst writing I have come across.
I won’t spoil the novel but it’s the first Reacher book that I have closed and put away less than halfway through. One and a half page chapters that jump all over the place just doesn’t do it for me. There’s no mystery or excitement – just frustration.
I wish all of you Reacher fans out there as much joy from reading The Secret that you can extract from it. For me, a long-time Reacher fan, there was none.
