My friend and I were having a debate about this because I’m convinced it’s a novella, but she isn’t cause online its referred to as a novel.
My arguments for it being a novella was that:
* Much shorter lenght than a Novel
* Story takes place within a very limited timeframe
* It has to very prominent “Dingsymbole” which atleaset in german novel theory is a symbol in the form an item that repeatedly appears within the story and is a tradmark of novellas.
* It “unerhörtes ereignis” which is also a tradmark in novellas which is a shoking event that shifts the tone of the book (at least in german theory)
I’d be interested to hear what other people have to say about this.
