Well…this book ain’t it. Galactic Empires, Probability drives and psionic attacks are some of what’s in store.
Our plucky research vessel crewed by some stalwart humans and their uplifted intelligent technologically adept dolphin crew run afoul of a consortium of pissed off alien religious fanatics. Can they escape in time???
Passion! Danger! Forbidden inter-species attraction! Mad scientists! Racist dolphins!
And a chimpanzee with a tactical nuke.
Is this a good book? I liked it. Is The Wrath of Khan a good movie? I dunno…but I liked that too.
So if you’re into rollicking, swashbuckling space adventure with just the right amount of thoughtfulness…you might like this book as well.
I did think the third act kind of dragged as all the pieces were put into play…but the finale certainly delivers. Anyway…it won a Hugo award so there’s that.
So if you’ve ever wanted to read about a dolphin in a mecha wielding a laser rifle: this is probably your best opportunity.
