I’m about a fourth of the way into the final book. Can someone please explain the appreciation for these books? So far Fitz has annoyed me at just about every turn. I feel like he was intended to seem fairly intelligent and skilled. He often seems to swap between confidence and cowardice. He seems to know he is ignorant of certain skills. Then deliberately ignores his ignorance at just about every opportunity.
I think he is one of the most incompetent and unlikable protagonists I can imagine for a series I’ve often seen recommended. Am I missing something here? Does he somehow manage to redeem himself substantially in this final book? I think when I finish this book I’ll likely never visit it again. Is the rest of the series similar to this?
