My local library is doing a reading challenge. I’ve never completed one but I’d really like to this time around. I’ve already done two of the six needed to finish it.
Please make suggestions for the remaining categories, listed below (on mobile so excuse the formatting). I’m not a fan of poetry, so please let those suggestions be quick reads! Also I do not like YA.
– set in a cold climate
– wintry cover
– book of poetry
– fairy/folk tale
– set during winter
– self-care or self-growth
– a favorite novel from childhood

I really liked Moon of the Crusted Snow:. I think that would fit multiple categories, and it’s not too long. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/39082248
Lol, we can’t really recommend a favorite from childhood for you unless you provide a list and at that point it should become obvious to you.
Ethan Frome is a perfect little gem of a classic novella, it can be read in one sitting on a winter afternoon (to live the feel of the setting) with a pot of tea (or hot beverage of choice) by your side. It has limited characters and a concise plot and twist you will not see coming.
Jon Klassen has a great little book out called The Skull, which is his take on a Troylean folktale. It looks like a kids chapter book, but is mainly illustrations and can be read in under 15 minutes and provides quite a wallop. Mark my words it will sweep the children’s book awards in the next few week.
There’s a Maya Angelou picture book illustrated with painting by John Michel Basquiat called Life Doesn’t Frighten Me. The paintings were paired with the poem after his death, yet they fit seamlessly.
