I realise that this may be super difficult to know where to start with suggestions as I’m not sure where to start myself! But I need a book that my son and I could read at the same time & then chat about Book Club style. He has ASD, doesn’t enjoy reading but enjoys doing things together. It’s an assignment from his Psychologist as his reading comprehension needs work as does his oral expression around concepts (but he’s pretty switched on otherwise!)

Is that impossible? Sorry if it is, but thought I would try 🙂

When my daughter (also on the spectrum) was 11, she *devoured* the wings of fire series.

She also loved the ahn do “weirdo” books which might be a little easier to read if he’s not a big reader already. And anything by David Walliams was a huge hit.

    2. Hi OP! I don’t have a specific book recommendation, but what about looking at comics if you haven’t already? If he’s not big into reading and he’s not tried comics yet, comics could be a starting point as they’re engaging with pictures and words. You could then work your way through reading novels (the ones with some illustrations but more words) and then explore books?

Alternatively, if he has any specific interests or special interests, a book around these may also help engage him with reading! ☺️
