You may enjoy the Jeeves and Wooster books, by P.G. Wodehouse. Light-hearted, witty, and cheering, with characters free of our peasant cares.

    2. In non-fiction, you could try the autobiographical books written by Eric Newby. They are genuinely fun and very British too.

The best is ‘A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush’.

At the end of the ‘50s, Newby worked in the fashion business in London and decided to try something else. Without any experience in mountaineering, he decided to climb a remote summit in Afghanistan. He relates his travels adventures with a lot of humor.

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared – it’s a little bit Forrest Gump-ish, in that they keep sort of stumbling into ridiculous scenarios and stumbling out of them, gaining friends along the way.

Bill Bryson writes some pretty fun books about traveling. One of my favorites of his is In a Sunburned Country about traveling around Australia.
