(Sorry for my bad english eventually)

The only ones that come to my mind that I have read are Praise of Folly by Erasmus of Rotterdam and The Global Citizen by Bauman (I liked both, even though I don’t like reading in general).

I understood that I prefer essays because when I read them I have the feeling that the author is directly talking to me about a topic that he likes and so I can follow well what I read.

On the contrary, I can’t finish fiction books, I tried but nothing. I can’t imagine anything of what I read, I forget the names, I don’t remember what the characters, the places, are like, it’s almost as if I read words for their own sake because I don’t see anything. On the contrary, in essays I don’t have to see anything because it’s like we’re just discussing, almost as if I were listening to a podcast.

When I explain this, the reactions of the readers are quite annoyed as I already said. I thought that any literary genre was good to read and instead it seems that it is not so? (so much so that often it is said “if you don’t like reading it is because you have not found your favorite genre!”)

    Please help me understand.
