Recently, I became interested in a larger number of books and since then I have not stopped reading. Since it is a large number of books, I started reading all day long, neglecting other obligations and friends. My friends started to get angry, because I persistently refuse to go out with them to parties once a week. In addition to all this, my study obligations also suffer. My exams will start in three weeks, and I’m not ready to get good grades yet. In three weeks I can get all the planned commitments, but I have one problem. I bought a book that I wanted to read for a long time. The book has a large number of pages, and I have to start studying for exams, so I would have to balance reading and studying. That might work, but I used to have a strict approach to books, so I read the exam literature and the books I chose separately. I am afraid that my literature will get mixed up and that I will not understand the two different contents correctly. That sounds a bit funny to me, because according to that I shouldn’t combine studying for different exams, which is impossible if I want to finish college, but I have some inexplicable prejudices. This is probably due to the fact that both literatures are very important to me, so I want to dedicate myself to them as much as possible. How did you balance reading with school obligations? Did you read books during the exam period?

    1. While reading is normally fine, obsessive reading (or obsessive activity of any kind) to the detriment of obligations can be a symptom of depression or other issues. I recommend seeking counseling.
