I’ve read a lot of existentialist classics (lots of Camus, some Sarte, Kafka [if you count that], and Kierkegaard), but that’s mostly what I’ve focused on over the years. I took a hiatus from reading philosophy as it was a little too heavy for my material/emotional conditions then. Going into the New Year, I’d really like to branch out.

I really enjoy the existentialist outlook on life, to focus on the here and now. It has helped soothe anxiety and put things in perspective. I tend to shy away from Stoicism mostly because of the ‘fan-base’ to be honest. I’m sure the core messages have been bastardized and diluted ad infinitum in order to make sense coming from the mouth of people like Andrew Tate, yet I still can’t shake the aversion to it. Happy to be directed to something of the genre that contradicts my current bias. I’m also really interested in Eastern philosophy, but I really have no idea where to begin.

This was a quick write up and I’m sorry that it definitely reads that way. I’m ultimately seeking some recs for philosophy texts that can remind me that life is worth fighting through and to continually default to distractions isn’t going to get me where I want to be. It may sound like I’m seeking a self-help book; however, I am seeking new interpretations of daily experience, not a way to will my thoughts into existence or some hokum like that. Thanks in advance!
