Top of my list is To Kill a Mockingbird. This was my first crime novel, and I haven’t lost my love for this genre eversince. There’s also something about Lee’s writing style that is very intriguing. Of course, everyone is aware of how good this book is, but I particularly relished Lee’s almost feel-good storytelling.
I adore Michael Connelly’s books (almost all, especially the Jack McEvoy series), so my next top read is The Poet; this was the book that introduced me to Connelly’s writing, and I really enjoyed a crime-thriller from a journalist’s perspective.
Third on my list is Take it Back by Kia Abdullah, mainly because I found it quite unique in its plot. Contrary to popular opinion regarding this book though, I found the “twist” at the end rather incongruous with earlier events. Still, for the time being, considering its uniqueness, it deserves the third place.
