I listen to alot of audiobooks. For me, as much as a good story, the narrator is as important. There are some really enjoyable ones out there and off the top of my head, Ralph Lister, John Lee and Jeff Woodman. These guys make books enjoyable. Then we have Gildart Jackson. The guy just sucks all life out of a book. I started listening to Shogun by James Clavell, and it was great, Ralph Lister really sold it to me. So in my excitement for the next instalment I get Tai-pan, only to have it entirely ruined by Gildart Jackson. The guy has no personality at all. I could go on, but you know what I’m going to write, so I’ll spare you.
So it made me wonder, who do you really enjoy listening to, and who would turn you off to an otherwise great story.
