I’ve not long finished reading To Kill A Mockingbird. It wasn’t a book that I was ever essentially bothered about reading, but I am reading through classics and must reads and this was at my library.
And oh my days, I am so happy that I ended up reading this gem. It’s actually became one of my favourite books ever. It was a easy read language wise. But what gripped me was the warm feeling of a southern town and its residents but the complexity of looking at racism. It was such an interesting and well put take on racism back in the late 20’s/ early 30’s. I think a lot of people could learn from this book for this reason. It shows that just because it was a collective way of thinking to look down and judge black people, that if you are that person who knows it’s wrong and that we are equals and starts to voice this and stand by your views and such, its just as powerful. You voicing that is giving support and helping to contribute to putting a stop to narrow minded thinking about racism.
I love how Atticus showed that education is key. And he educated Scout and Jem that no matter what colour you are. We are all equal. It’s about educating equal rights and that we are all flesh and blood and the same.
