    I read Piranesi a couple of years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. I’m looking for books that start off confounding you with stuff like ‘what’s going on here, is this person insane’ etc as more and more hints pile up. I have a preference for the explanation being scifi and somewhat grounded in reality but of course Piranesi has been my favourite, so I’m not set on that!

    A couple I’ve read which I’d classify as similar:

    * Eversion by Alastair Reynolds
    * The Invention of Morel by Adolfo Bioy Casares
    * The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu
    * Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (I saw this recommended in a similar thread to my question and I don’t think it fits to be honest – you basically do learn what is going on quite early)

    I love the slow reveal and trading theories with my friends who are reading them at the same time with these books and I’d love more!
