I just finished watching The Last of Us for the millionth time and am really craving books with the dynamic Joel and Ellie had. So if any of y’all know of any books with spunky girl main characters who have grumpy asshole father figures, lmk. If they have adventure or road trips, added bonus. Found family is also a big bonus, and ofc, any queer elements are appreciated. Though at this point I will take literally any book where a grumpy guy hangs out with his daughter. Books like Heidi were my favorite as a kid. I aDORED True Grit when I read it last year. One hundred percent Joel and Ellie vibes. I don’t mind sweet and nice father figures either, but I love grumpy ones the most. Adoption stories will def make me sob, also down for books where the plot has nothing to do with the father daughter thing, but that’s a fairly big part of the book. I’d prefer the main character be the girl but also fine with the father.
