Some of my favorite reads of 2023 were The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon, Resistance: My Life for Lebanon by Souha Bechara, and Munnu: A Boy from Kashmir by Malik Sajad.
Secrets from the Field: An Ethnographer’s Notes from North Pakistan was also fascinating not because it was brilliantly written but because it dealt with a very underrepresented region, which I belong to myself.

I’m looking for more reads in a similar line. Anything from South America or Africa is particularly welcome because I haven’t had the chance to venture there yet. Would prefer the kind of reads that are not all suffering and nothing else, but all recommendations that apply are welcome! The more unusual/unknown the better.
